G.R Whitfield
School, through a premiere learning environment of mutual
respect among teachers, students, and parents, excellence in
teaching that offers experiences to authentically engage
students in the learning process and commitment of high
expectations for all learners, will equip students with the
necessary skills for success in the 21st century.

All K-8 core classes will have access
to interactive Smartboard Technology instruction!

Whitfield has received two additional
technology based instructional programs, one for K-2 and
another for 3-8.

We have a DSSF teacher that will be
working with at-risk middle school students.

4-8.

We have purchased an additional
$10,000 in media print for the library!
History
G. R. Whitfield School,
founded by George Roscoe Whitfield, was formerly Pitt County
Training School. It was the only high school for black
students in Pitt County. Dormitories were built in 1923. In
the 1960's the school was desegregated. In 1967, the school
was renamed G.R.Whitfield School.
About Us
Today G.R. Whitfield is a
PreK-8 school in Grimesland, NC. Our campus includes 3 main
buildings, the newest addition was completed in 2001.
Our K-3 reading program is
funded through the federal Reading First Grant. We also have
the Reading Recovery program to compliment our reading
instruction through Title 1.
We have special classes
ranging from the TMD class to pullout TAG groups.
Our middle school offers clubs
and athletics to our students including football,
cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball and
baseball.
