Pitt County Schools
All County Elementary Choral Festival
2008

On Tuesday March 18, 2008 at 7:00 pm, South Central High School hosted the 2008 Pitt County Schools All-County Elementary Choral Concert to showcase the vocal talents of 5th graders in our community. Eleven Pitt County elementary schools selected up to seventeen of their best choral singers to participate in the event. These dedicated students and music teachers began working in January to learn five pieces selected by clinician and choral conductor Jason Thompson of Appalachian State University. Students rehearsed before and after school at their individual schools as well as at home to learn their vocal parts and memorize all of their song texts. At 12:30 p.m. on March 18th over 130 students met at South Central High School to rehearse their repertoire with Mr. Thompson.
At 7:00 p.m. family
members and friends of the choruses filled the South Central auditorium to hear
the performance by Pitt County's best singers.
Mr. Thompson and Josh Lilley, choral director of D.H. Conley and South Central
High School, led a special high school ensemble in a special presentation to
show parents and elementary students how far they could develop musically if they remain
involved in choral music throughout high school.
Mr. Thompson directed the elementary chorus in performing a variety of choral
music including
Domine Deus Agnus Dei, Antiphonal Alleluia, Zoo Illogical, Child of Tomorrow,
and Feel Good.
Kathi Howell from Farmville Middle School accompanied on piano.
