Mrs. Counterman

Mrs. Counterman began teaching at FMS in 1987. The
2006-2007 year is her 22nd year of teaching. She is a graduate of Farmville Central
High School and East Carolina
University . She holds a BS degree, M.A. Ed
and National Board Certification, for which she is the contact person. She
spends her free minute (not minutes) as the Co-athletic director and the Team
Leader for the Encore Team.

Mrs. Howell
Music/Strings
|
Mrs. Howell received her education from East Carolina
University. She was
awarded a B. M. Ed. degree in 1999. Her career includes 14 years of teaching
experience on the elementary school, middle school and high school levels.
She teaches orchestra, general music, and is currently teaching chorus. Mrs.
Howell's professional organizations include NCMEA, MENC, ACDA, NCAE, and
NEA. Mrs. Howell has taught piano lessons for 25+ years, and is
an accomplished pianist. She was previously the organist at Westfield
Baptist Church and Hood Memorial Christian Church in Dunn, North Carolina,
the Farmville Presbyterian Church for 17 years, and has been substitute
organist for the First Christian Church, Farmville United Methodist Church,
and The Episcopal Church of Farmville. In addition, she has accompanied
children’s church choirs at the Farmville
United Methodist
Church and the
Farmville Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Howell has played for numerous
weddings, special performances at schools and vocal competitions, and
accompanied for voice recitals. She also was the piano accompanist for
the Rocky Mount “Red Stocking Revue”, Farmville Community Arts Council
production of “The Music Man”, “The Farmville Follies”, “Off-On Broadway”,
and organist for the Farmville Community Singers performances of “The
Messiah”. Mrs. Howell has been the accompanist for several Pitt
All County Middle School and Elementary School Chorus performances, Pitt
County Schools All County Orchestra, and the Brunswick County Elementary
School All County Chorus. Mrs. Howell taught Orchestra at Ayden Middle School
for 5 years, and in the Spring of 2003, her students successfully auditioned
to perform at Carnegie Hall in New
York City. She has experience in solo literature for
strings and choral students, grades 6-12, preparing students for solo
festivals, beginning and intermediate strings instruction, and preparing
students for large ensemble orchestra contest. She also has been an
adjudicator for Pre-Festival Band performances. Mrs. Howell has been an
active staff member for the NC Summer Institute of Choral Arts at Appalachian
State University for the past 5 years. Mrs.
Howell lives in Farmville with her husband, Eric, and they have four
children: Amanda, Matt, Alyssa, and Adam. She enjoys going to the river
for swimming, boating, crabbing, and fishing with friends.

Mrs. Thomas
Art
|
Mrs. Thomas is an art instructor and is the head of the FMS art
department. She filled a part-time art teaching position in August 2004.
She assumed her current position at the semester break of that school year.
She acquired a degree at East Carolina
University in Art
Education with a major-studio in Interior Design. She was a part of the
inaugural class of the North
Carolina Teachers' Academy.
She has worked as an interior designer and as a
professional artist. She is a "pen and ink specialist" who draws
historical sites, homes, and businesses. She also is a portrait
painter. Her work is located across the US and internationally. Prior to
taking the position at FMS, she owned and operated the R.B. Thomas Art
Studio, Gallery, School.
She is a member of the Pitt County Schools' Educational Foundation Board of Directors and has served on local Boards
for the Farmville Community Arts Council and the Farmville Public Library.

Mrs. Hamilton

Mrs. Hamilton has a B.A. in English from Duke University, from which she did her practice
teaching in Winston-Salem at the Advancement School ,
a school for underachieving eighth grade boys. She also earned an M.A. in
English from East
Carolina University,
for which she wrote a master's thesis on Chaucer. Over thirty-nine years in
education in eastern North Carolina , she has taught at the high school and middle
school levels in Lenoir and Pitt Counties and at the college level at Lenoir Community College
, Pitt Community
College , and East
Carolina University
as a graduate assistant, lecturer, and instructor in the English Department.
She has taught the academically gifted in Pitt County
for fourteen years and has been chosen N. C. Academically Gifted Teacher of
the Year.
