Driver's Education

Mr. Chester Terrell is our Drivers' Education Coordinator

Mr. Terrell has come on board to interface between the school and the Drivers Education Program. Please go to him, in the front office, for Drivers' Eligibility Certificates and other information.

Driver's Eligibility Certificates my be requested after report cards go home in June, students may arrange to bring them in if they are passing at least three of four subjects the second semester.

Students who need to drive their own car will need to get an application to park on campus from Deputy Coburn, our School Resource Officer. The fee for parking permits is $40. All cars must be registered by August 27 before you drive them on campus.  Parking applications my be downloaded here.

For more information on the DEC (Driving Eligibility Certificate) enacted in 1997 you can check out the NC DMV website or call Terry Blevins at 919/715-6912 at the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles. At FCHS, Driving Eligibility Certificates can be obtained in Student Services from the secretary.

A summary of the new North Carolina Graduated Driver Licensing Law that became effective on December 1, 1997, follows:

Level I: Limited Learner's Permit involves parents, guardians and/or other responsible drivers in the training of young drivers.

Level II: Limited Provisional License protects young drivers during the night time hours when they are most at risk.

Level III: Full Provisional License rewards violation-free driving.
