Please be sure to send your child in tennis shoes that day since we will be walking to the park. A special thank you for all your support this school year. Elmhurst parents are the best! The third grade teachers hope that the EOG information we sent home has been beneficial in helping your child get ready for the EOG. Please practice multiplication facts with your child because they are easy to forget and also encourage reading every night. We appreciate all of your support. It is a team effort. |

May is Better Hearing and Speech Month — Mrs. Kincannon |
|
To avoid vocal strain-drink plenty of water, use an inside voice and avoid raising your voice to talk above noise, get plenty of rest at night, and avoid yelling to gain someone’s attention. To avoid hearing loss-use hearing protection when using lawn equipment; TURN DOWN the MUSIC! Loud music can damage hearing. IPods, car stereos, televisions should be turned down to a comfortable level. To encourage communication in young children-talk about the events of the day with your child when you can give them your undivided attention; read AND talk about the words, pictures, and characters in the book; use photographs of special events, such as birthday parties or family reunions to talk about the order of the event, describe people or feelings, and then let your child share with someone who wasn’t there. To encourage written expression-let your child help write the grocery list or a phone message to a family member; help your child write a story about a recent event such as a family trip, family visit, or birthday party (you can let young children tell the story while you write it down for them). To encourage more fluent speech-allow extra time for your child to say what they need to say; try to find a quiet time to give them your attention and listen while they talk, without interrupting. To encourage clearer speech-always model clear speech; GENTLY offer a different way of saying a word by saying, “Did you mean to say______?” Do not ridicule or punish a child if they cannot speak clearly.
