Buccaneer Media News
Welcome back to Buccaneer
Media News. We have a lot going on in the New Year. Our Teknet system is up and
running and we are having fun. The beginning of January we were able to start
using the Teknet system allowing teachers to watch a movie and play it in their
class room with out coming into the media center to check out a television,
video, or dvd. This addition to our library has proven to be very helpful not
only to our teachers but to the media staff.
This technological network system installed by Sprint, so far we have
used the system to show DVDs, videos, post announcements, and school events.
Our staff has great ideas that are coming into play as the year
progresses. One of the things that the media center is involved with is what we
call Buccaneer Book Reviews. The bheta club, along with the media
center are working together to create a Buccaneer Broadcast that highlights
school news, weather, lunch menu, book reviews, and the pledge. This program is
filmed by the students in the media center and will be broadcasted every
morning during homeroom on channel 2. That’s right you heard me, our students are becoming reporters. Buccaneer
Book Review is a program that the library hosts showcasing books that
are located in our library. This show is a spin off of the Reading Rainbow
program that comes on PBS. Students from our Kindergarten classes on up to 8th
grade participate by talking about books they have read in our library. The
students seem to be really excited about this program because it gives them a
chance to interact wi th the new technology and to be filmed throughout the
school. We believe this program will help motivate children to become more
involved with the media center and inspire them to read. We feel that this
program along with others will help introduce our students to new experiences
and skills that will help them in the classrooms as well as every day life. Buccaneer
Book Review is scheduled to show every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
from 7:45 till 7:50. Who knows maybe we will inspire the next talk show host or
news anchor.
