Art
The middle school curriculum is one of exploration and experimentation. At times, it is the student's first experience in an art classroom, which gives the teacher the challenge of teaching art at a variety of skill levels to students who bring all levels of prior knowledge with them. The primary goal of the middle school art teacher is NOT to produce exceptional works of art, although it frequently happens. Instead it is to allow the student to experiment with a wide variety of techniques, to become familiar with a wide range of art media, and to encourage the student to develop creative problem solving that will carry over into academic areas as well as provide a base for art on the high school level and beyond. Most importantly, it is the hope of the teacher that the student will gain an appreciation for the arts.
