A.E.S. Mile and Fitness Clubs
Mile Club
The Mile Club is a running club in which our students can come out at various times during the day and log in miles by running five laps around our recess field.
We have run over 23,000 miles in a school year, but average about 16,000 miles per year.
Ribbons are given out at 1,5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,60,70,80,90,100,125, 150,175,and 200 miles
At 30 miles the children qualify for the cross country run at the end of the year. I give out trophies for the top three finishers in each grade level male and female.
Our runners have placed in many road races throughout the state from Greenville to Raleigh. In one road race with over 200 entrants we took 21 out of 24 possible places. We also took the top male and female trophies under age twelve. We also took the top overall female trophy (a nine year old girl did this and set a new course record). This was in a one mile TAC certified race. In the 5k we took the First Place for males under twelve.
Fitness Club
The Fitness Club is one which our top fitness students can participate in a spring fitness championship against the top fitness students from the other schools in the county (30). They participate in the mile run, sit-ups and sit and reach.
Last spring we took The County Fitness Championship in 8 out of 9 age categories in which we were entered and third place in the other.
